Quality you can expect
Videos come back at the highest resolution X encoded for that post. X compresses aggressively on upload and caps most video at 1280×720, so expect the file to be smaller and softer than the creator's original.
What doesn't work
Stated plainly, because finding out after three failed attempts is worse.
- Posts from protected accounts cannot be fetched.
- Some posts return nothing even when public — X serves parts of its media API only to authenticated sessions, and which posts are affected changes without warning.
- Age-restricted and sensitive-media posts generally fail for the same reason.
- Deleted posts fail even if the link still resolves to a page.
The /video/1 suffix is handled for you
When you copy a link to a specific piece of media on X, the app often appends a segment like /video/1 or /photo/2 to the post URL. Many downloaders reject those outright. Here the URL is trimmed back to the post ID before anything else happens, so both forms work and you do not need to clean the link by hand.
Tracking parameters after the question mark are dropped in the same step. Paste whatever the share sheet gave you.
Why a public post sometimes still fails
X has moved a growing share of its media endpoints behind authentication. The result is inconsistent from the outside: two apparently identical public posts can behave differently, and a post that worked last month may not work today. When that happens the error is honest about it rather than pretending the post does not exist.
There is no fix on this end that does not involve holding an X account on a server, which is not something this site is willing to do.

Do twitter.com links still work? +
Yes. Both x.com and twitter.com point at the same posts, and both are accepted. Older saved links do not need updating.
Can I download a GIF from X? +
Yes, though you will get an MP4. What X displays as a GIF is stored and served as a silent looping video, so the download is a video file. Convert it afterwards if you specifically need the GIF format.
Why did a public post fail? +
X restricts parts of its media API to authenticated sessions, and which posts that affects changes without notice. Sensitive-media and age-restricted posts fail most consistently. This is a limitation on X's side, not something a different downloader will solve.
What resolution do I get? +
The best X encoded for that post, usually capped at 1280×720. X re-encodes on upload, so the original quality is already gone before any download happens.
