Bluesky Video Downloader

To download a video from Bluesky, copy the post's link using the share option or the address bar, paste it into the box on this page, and press Download. Videos from public posts save as MP4. Bluesky posts are public by default, so most links work.

On iPhone? Arca saves links like this straight into an encrypted vault — never into a shared Downloads folder.

How to download

  1. 1

    Copy the post link

Use the share option on the post, or copy the URL from the address bar. The link contains the poster's handle and the post's record key.

  2. 2

    Paste it above

Drop the link into the box on this page and press Download. Nothing is saved to an account — there isn't one.

  3. 3

    The MP4 downloads

Files are named from the handle and post ID, for example bluesky_someone.bsky.social_3mrnaiibe5h2w.mp4 — unusually traceable back to the source.

Link formats that work

Quality you can expect

Bluesky serves video through HLS, so the download is assembled from the stream and delivered as an MP4. Bluesky caps upload size tightly, which means files are small and already compressed — expect 720p or below for most posts.

What doesn't work

Stated plainly, because finding out after three failed attempts is worse.

  • Posts from accounts that have enabled logged-out visibility restrictions cannot be fetched.
  • Deleted posts fail; Bluesky removes the underlying record immediately.
  • Video is a relatively recent addition to Bluesky, so posts embedding video from elsewhere are links rather than native video and will not download here.
  • Very fresh posts occasionally fail while Bluesky finishes processing the upload — wait a minute and retry.

Filenames that identify their source

A Bluesky download is named from the poster's handle and the post's record key. That is more provenance than any other platform here provides: months later the filename alone tells you who posted it and lets you reconstruct the original URL.

For anyone saving material for reference or citation rather than entertainment, this is a meaningful difference.

Why Bluesky links are unusually reliable

Bluesky is built on an open protocol where posts are public records by default, and it has not yet built the anti-scraping defences that older platforms deploy. The practical result is that Bluesky links work more consistently here than Instagram or X links do.

That may change as the network grows. For now it is one of the more dependable sources on this site.

On iPhone

The same thing, into an encrypted vault

A browser download lands in a shared Downloads folder that other apps, backup services, and anyone holding your phone can read. Arca does this same paste-a-link step on iPhone, except the video is encrypted the moment it arrives and never passes through your Camera Roll.

Questions

Do Bluesky videos download with a watermark? +

No. Bluesky does not stamp uploaded video, and this tool adds nothing. You get the file as the poster uploaded it, subject to Bluesky's compression.

What resolution are Bluesky videos? +

Usually 720p or below. Bluesky enforces tight upload limits and compresses accordingly, so the source itself is modest.

Why did a very recent post fail? +

Bluesky processes video after the post appears. If you try within seconds of posting, the video may not be ready yet. Waiting a minute usually resolves it.
