What the poster actually sees

The second row surprises people most. Platforms do report save counts to creators, which is why the belief persists that saving is somehow visible. It is visible in aggregate and anonymous in detail, and those are very different things.
The one case that does fire an alert
Disappearing content is built on a promise, so it gets special handling.
When something is sent as view-once or in a vanishing mode, several messaging apps notify the sender if you screenshot it. That behaviour exists because the whole point of the format is that the content is not supposed to persist. It applies to messages sent directly to you, not to feed posts, and not to stories, where screenshot alerts were tried years ago and abandoned.
Who does see it
Nobody is notified, but that is not the same as nobody knowing.
- The platform sees a request. Fetching a video is a network call, logged like any other. That has always been true of watching it too.

- Whoever picks up your phone sees the file. A video in your Camera Roll is visible to anyone holding an unlocked handset, and it can sync onward to a shared photo library.
The last one is the risk people actually run into, and it has nothing to do with the poster.
